Is Liposuction right for you?
Answer these 6 questions....
1. Are you happy with some parts of your body but not others?
It's a fact that sometimes men and women have problem areas, and no amount of dieting can eliminate these areas. With women these areas are usually thighs, hips and buttocks. In men it is generally the chest (man boobs) and abdomen.
In some situations, in order to eliminate problem areas many people lose weight to such an extent that it has an adverse effect in areas they do not want to lose weight in, e.g. face (which can cause skin sagging), breasts (which can cause volume loss and sagging) or even buttocks. This is not desirable.
A Liposuction procedure can help you find the right balance between weight loss and health, and also shape and proportion.
2. Are you in good health?
Good health is essential when undergoing any procedure. At the me clinic your health is paramount to us, so our Surgeons examine your medical history, conduct a proper medical assessment and ensure you undergo medical tests before any procedure is performed to ensure that you are fit and healthy for surgery. We do not take any chances with your health and well-being.
This is the me clinic difference.
3. Are you overweight for your height and weight?
If you are considerably overweight, regisiter a high Body Mass Index (BMI), Liposuction may not be the solution for you. Liposuction is not designed for weight loss (even though it may assist so). It is an exercise in shaping and contouring your body to achieve better proportion and balance.
We advise our patients to participate in a balanced diet and lifestyle, to achieve weight loss in a healthy and positive manner. When our patients are pleased with areas of their body that are not problem areas (such as face, breasts, thighs or abdomen) then Liposuction can help to reduce the problem areas to achieve the shape and symmetry the patient desires.
4. Is your skin elastic and springs back to shape?
The skin normally stretches and returns to its normal position if it is well hydrated and healthy. However, some patients do not have this desirable characteristic with their skin.
A suitable candidate for Liposuction should have firm and elastic skin which enables the skin to 'retract' back into place once Liposuction has been performed on the problem areas. The elasticity and firmness of the skin is important in achieving the optimum results from Liposuction.
With patients who do not have firm or elastic skin there is tendency for the skin not to go back into shape after Liposuction and can result in loose sagging skin. Our Cosmetic Surgeons assess you and advise you if if your skin type would be suitable for Liposuction.
However, our experienced Cosmetic Surgeons are able with some patients to apply techniques unique to the me clinic that help the skin to contract and retract in place so as to achieve the best possible result from Liposuction.
5. Do you have excess skin and problem areas with excess fat?
In some instances patients have excess or sagging skin particularly after child birth and dramatic weight loss. In these situations the skin may have lost it's elasticity and has been unable to return to it's normal position.
These people are generally not good candidates for Liposuction as the removal of problem areas will cause the skin to further sag leaving more excess skin. In these instances a Tummy Tuck procedure, which removes excess skin may be required before a Liposuction procedure can be undertaken.
6. Are you realistic about what you expect from Liposuction?
Are you considering Liposuction as an answer to your weight gains? Are you expecting Liposuction to transform your body to such an extent that is not attainable? Our Cosmetic Surgeons can advise you what is possible and achievable to ensure that your expectations are realistic and are met with the best results possible.
We would be pleased to meet with you to assess your suitability for Liposuction and advise how we can help you create a happier you.
