Fat Transfers to Face

(also known as Lipo-Augmentation, Autologous Fat Transplantation or Micro-Lipoinjection)

A Fat transfer procedure uses the patient’s own fat to add volume to the face, with the aim of reducing facial lines and wrinkles. It can also provide definition to the cheeks and chin and can also be used to correct facial deformities.

While it can be a viable and more natural alternative to Dermal Fillers, it’s important to understand that results can vary and there are potential risks involved.

Surgical Warning: Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

How does Fat Transfer to Face work?

The fat transfer procedure involves the use of liposuction to withdraw fat from the patient’s body, which is then re-injected into specific areas of the face. While this can restore some volume lost with age or trauma, it’s a complex procedure that requires a period of recovery. This treatment is suitable for patients who just wish to just add volume to areas of their face to improve or subtly or dramatically change their appearance.

A successful fat transfer procedure may have long-lasting effects, but it’s important to note that in some patients, some portion of the transferred fat may be absorbed by the body. The rate of absorption can vary and cannot be determined for each patient prior to the procedure. In our experience, a significant portion of the transferred fat may remain, but results can vary. In certain patients a successful Fat Transfer procedure can last a lifetime.

What are the benefits of Fat Transfer?

  • While fat transferred to the face can have long-lasting effects, it’s important to note that results can vary greatly between patients due to a variety of factors.
  • While fat transfer can be performed in conjunction with other procedures like liposuction, it’s important to consider each procedure’s risks and benefits independently.
  • There’s generally no allergic reaction.

While some studies suggest that combining fat transfer with cell therapy treatments may enhance results, it’s important to understand that results can vary and there are potential risks involved.

What should I expect after Fat Transfer to Face Procedure?

After your procedure you may feel drowsy from the anaesthetic. It is important to have someone drive you home and stay overnight. On this evening we recommend you rest. You are provided with an after hours direct number in the event you may have any questions or concerns you wish to speak to us about.

After the procedure, you may experience swelling and redness, and some bruising is possible. These side effects typically resolve within a week, but recovery times can vary. It’s important to remember that seeing the final results may take time as your body heals and adjusts.

You may experience some minor discomfort after the fat transfer procedure, although this tends to resolve quickly. While many patients report minimal discomfort after the procedure, everyone’s experience with pain is different. Some patients may find that they need pain medication to manage discomfort in the days following the procedure.

Our surgeons and nurses, who are registered medical practitioners with specialist registration in cosmetic surgery, will continue to monitor your recovery through a number of post-operative check-ups and are available at any time if you have questions or concerns. Please call the Me Clinic to speak with one of our surgeons, nurses or one of our staff members.

How Much Does it Cost?

Each patient we see has unique requirements, making it challenging to provide standardised pricing. Each procedure is tailored to the individual patient’s situation. While fat transfer can be performed in conjunction with other procedures like liposuction, it’s important to consider each procedure’s risks and benefits independently.

During your consultation, our surgeon, who holds [insert qualifications and type of medical registration], will discuss with you the best options for you. You will then be provided with a quote so you know exactly what is involved in your procedure and what it will cost.

There is no need for you to obtain a referral from your own doctor to see one of our Surgeons. Generally we are able to book you in to see one of our Surgeons in 7 to 14 days.
