Man Boobs - me clinic has a solution

December 30, 2015

Many men suffer from the embarrassment of ‘man boobs’ medically known as ‘Gynaecomastia’.

This condition can lead to many men feeling self-conscious when wearing tighter fitting clothing or spending a day at the beach.

What are the causes of man boobs?

For some men the reason can be a due to just being overweight.

However, for many other men they can have increased levels of female hormones and decreased levels of male hormones, which can lead to their breasts  looking like women’s breasts – hence the term ‘man boobs’.

Therefore, man boobs are not always the result of just being overweight.

So how can me clinic assist with treating this condition?

Man Boobs can be treated by a liposuction procedure.

Depending on the patients requirements we can simply remove the excess fat cells from the breasts; however, if required we can also remove excess glandular fat breast tissue.

If the patient only requires the excess fat to be removed this is easily treated by Liposuction.  In this procedure a small incision only millimetres wide is made in an inconspicuous area. A small canula is inserted and the excess fat is then removed under suction.

If the patient also requires the removal of excess glandular fat breast tissue (located behind the nipples) your Surgeon performs an additional procedure by making a very small incision below the nipple and the excess breast tissue is then removed.

These procedures can be done effectively under sedation with a local anaesthetic and general anaesthesia is not generally required.

Recovery period

The next day or within a few days you will attend the me clinic for your first post-operative check. You may experience some bruising and swelling however this usually subsides within a couple of weeks.

Most patients tolerate the discomfort without the need for pain relieving medication. However, if you feel any discomfort this can be managed by pain relief medications.

A compression garment is usually worn for around three to six weeks around the chest area to ensure the optimum results from the procedure. Most patients find they can resume all their regular activity within two to three weeks.

With effective treatments such as liposuction and other surgical procedures readily available, they provide the perfect way to rediscover your lost confidence and put an end to those "moob" jokes for good.

The important thing is to find a cosmetic surgeon with the right kind of experience; in other words, they should have experience treating man boobs or Gynaecomastia.

Me clinic has had over 30 years of cosmetic surgery experience and we would be happy to share this experience with you.
