Fat Transfer - a natural alternative to breast augmentation.
We get asked the same question time and time again – ‘can you take the fat out of my tummy and put it in my breasts’? Guess what we can!
As an alternative and a natural option to Breast Augmentation using implants, many of our patients consider a Fat Transfer to enhance or increase their breast size.
Simply put the unwanted fat is taken from the patients own body (by liposuction technique) and then injected into the breasts to increase the size and shape. This complements the existing fat in the breast, which makes the breast appear fuller and it feels more natural.
There are many advantages to this procedure:
- There are no incisions
- It is minimally invasive
- Feels and looks natural
- Has a quicker recovery
- Near normal breast sensation remains
- There is a minimal risk of complications as we are using your own body product.
A successful Fat Transfer procedure may last many years, but in some patients some portion of the fat grafted may to be absorbed by the body which will in turn reduce the volume of the breast. Unfortunately, the rate of absorption of the fat or otherwise cannot be determined for each patient prior to the procedure. The good news is we always remove extra fat so we can inject more fat into the breasts if you require.
However for many patients a successful Fat Transfer and graft procedure can last a lifetime if the patient's body does not absorb the fat grafted. One of these patients is Leanne – she had a fat transfer to breast procedure with Dr Ashley over 13 years ago and is happy to share her experience.
Why did you choose a ‘Fat transfer to breast’ procedure over a ’standard breast augmentation with implants’ procedure.
At the time I was undergoing a liposuction procedure and it was a perfect option at the time.
What breast size did you begin with and then after this procedure did you reach?
I started with a small B at best, finished with full C, sometimes D
Did the procedure meet or exceed your expectations?
Absolutely exceeded my expectations.
What was the recovery process like afterwards?
Nothing unexpected. It was not an issue. As the procedure has a quicker recovery time then breast augmentation there is no large incisions or disruption of muscles etc. Also my breast sensation remained the same.
Have you lost any of the transferred fat?
No it appears that all the transferred fat has remained.
Would you recommend this procedure to other women considering breast enhancement surgery?
I totally recommend this procedure as it is not as intrusive as and less obvious then breast implant surgery. There is no scarring and carries minimal risk complications as opposed to breast augmentation surgery.
At me clinic we have over 30 years of Cosmetic Surgery experience and we were one of the first clinics in Australia in the 1980's to use the Fat Transfer Method to increase breast size and we have refined the procedure whereby it is an extremely effective option.
