Breast Surgery. What are my options?

June 30, 2017

How we look has never held as much importance or reflected so significantly on our perceived self worth as it does today.  During your life you will encounter people who may have had Breast Enhancement procedures and you may wonder if it is right for you too.

Me Clinic are happy to offer our patients the follow surgical procedures:

Breast Augmentation/ Breast Implants

This procedure is not only about enhancing your breast size but also your shape and contour. The size and shape varies depending on your needs and the result you are looking for.

Breast Augmentation with breast implants involves making a small unobtrusive incision under the fold of the breast, around the nipple or under the arm. Your pre-selected silicone or saline breast implant is then inserted inside the breast either on top of the muscle tissue or beneath depending on the results we want to achieve. With this technique, any scarring is minimised and generally fades with time.

Fat Transfer to Breast

As an alternative to Breast Augmentation with breast implants, many of our patients consider a Fat Transfer to enhance or increase their breast size.

This procedure involves removing a patient’s fat tissue (by Liposuction) and grafting it in the breast area to increase the size of breasts naturally.

Fat is naturally occurring in the breast area and the addition of the patient’s own fat complements the existing fat in the breast, providing a natural feel and volume increase.

This Fat Transfer procedure can be combined with a Liposuction procedure where it is possible to remove fat cells from problem areas such as your buttocks, stomach and thighs and use it to increase your breast size. With Fat Transfer to the breasts there is the appeal of using a patient’s own fat tissue, which makes the breast appear and feel more natural.

The newest approach is to mix a woman’s fat with her stem cells before injecting into the breast and  although the results may be longer lasting, the amount of enlargement is somewhat modest compared to implants. This technique can also be used to restore small areas after other breast surgeries (i.e. cancer).

Breast Reduction via Liposuction

Some women find  that very large and heavy breasts cause them pain and physical difficulty while some have confidence issues, and others find their breasts restricting or limiting for sports and other activities they wish to do.

Breast Reduction via Liposuction involves making one or two tiny incisions and removing fat cells in the same way as liposuction is performed on other areas of the body. The incisions are small and heal with virtually no scarring. With our experience generally a Breast Reduction procedure with Liposuction can reduce a breast size by up to 50 %. It is a relatively simple procedure that gives immediate results.

Traditional Breast Reduction

This involves making incisions on the skin, tissue and breast glands and removing any excess fat, skin and tissue. This procedure can be combined with a Mastopexy to also lift and shape the breast. Traditional Breast Reduction Surgery is effective in providing a sizeable reduction in breast size, and with a Mastopexy also a breast lift.

Whilst the surgery allows a greater reduction in breast size, it can leave some degree of scarring on the area and lower breast. It may also interfere with breast feeding.

Scarless Breast Lift

This revolutionary surgery was pioneered in in the early 2000s  by Dr Ashley Granot and Me Clinic is the only clinic in the world performing this procedure. It avoids the removal of skin and the resultant scarring from typical breast lift surgery. As a result, recovery times are much shorter allowing a much quicker return daily routines with an improved look.

The surgery involves making a small incision in the armpit and applying an exclusive procedure only used by our surgeons that encourages collagen formation which assists the breasts to lift significantly with no scarring. Following surgery, a specific routine designed by our surgeons needs to be followed involving specialised instructions and special bras.

The Scarless Breast Lift™ procedure has also proven effective in some cases in repositioning and raising the nipples on the breast that otherwise was previously only correctable by more traditional Breast Lift surgery.

Traditional Breast Lift

Breast Lift surgery, also called Mastopexy, is designed to lift, reshape, and firm your breasts. As time goes by, the breast can be uniquely affected by loss of skin elasticity, gravity, and other specific female events such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight loss.

The shape and firmness of the breasts suffers, and the nipple position can descend to the lowest part of the breast. Sometimes, there may be some differences in breast appearance from side to side, and this can also be helped by the procedure.

The lift procedure, which reshapes the breast tissues, elevates the nipple to a higher position, and removes excessive skin, will give you a more shapely, youthful breast contour. Where there has been a loss of breast volume leaving excessive skin, the insertion of an implant at the same time as the lift procedure can correct the loss of breast fullness.

Corrective surgery / Revision Surgery

We are approached by many patients who have had breast surgery elsewhere and particularly from overseas breast surgery cases where patients are unhappy with the results of their Breast Augmentation Surgery.

Often the wrong type of implant or the wrong shape implants have been used, or the implants are too big, too small. We have found that with Overseas Surgery for Breast Augmentation Surgery generally a "production line" approach is used where the same type and size of implants are used on each patient, generally with poor results.

In some patients the breast implants have "encapsulated" where the patient's body has rejected the implants which require the original implant (or implants) to be removed and replaced.
