6 ingredients for healthy looking skin
We’ve all heard the phrase “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure”. For anti-ageing of the skin, this couldn’t be truer! In fact at the Me Clinic that is our motto when it comes to our Preventative Cosmetic Medicine.
In this day and age, we are blessed with many non-surgical (and surgical) options to help reverse the signs of ageing of the skin. Wouldn’t it be wonderful, if we could simply prevent skin ageing in the first place?
It is possible; with a little help from our Preventative Cosmetic Medicine philosophy….start before it shows!
Our highly regarded Preventative Cosmetic Medicine skin programs allow you to work on preventing a vast majority of your skin’s ageing all from the comfort of your own bathroom. Too good to be true? No, it’s just basic skin science and 5 minutes from you, morning and night.
Let’s start by talking about the 6 key ingredients for younger healthy looking skin.
Vitamin A - Helps speed up the production of collagen and elastin making cells.
Vitamin B - Helps stabilise the pigment producing cells.
Vitamin C – Is a natural skin brightener, strengthening for capillaries and the first building block needed to make new collagen.
Peptides – Are small chains of amino acids to help with collagen and elastin production.
Hyaluronic Acid - Hold its own weight in water 1000 times, making the skin more plump and hydrated.
Stem Cells - Wound healing regulatory proteins that control natural healing of the skin.
As the skin starts to age our natural production of these ingredients starts to decline. While healthy eating habits and lifestyle choices will help the body, the skin is often the last to benefit.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could feed these ingredients straight to the skin? Well recent studies have proven, we can! Our very clever organ….the skin, actually has receptors to absorb these ingredients topically. But be aware that only skin care on a Cosmeceutical or Pharmaceutical level has the technology to do so. These products have clinically proven strengths that are enough to actually help make changes on a cellular level.
Just as important as insuring that the skin has enough of these vital ingredients, is protecting them. The best way to do this is with Sunscreen and antioxidant serums. We must fight free radical and UV damage to prevent breakdown of these ingredients. Quite frankly, if you don’t use a sunscreen daily, you are already losing the battle. UV damage is responsible for almost 80% of your skin’s ageing, including: fine lines and wrinkles, loss of elasticity, pigmentation issues, damaged blood vessels, volume loss, and skin cancers. These all contribute to making the skin look more aged.
Moisturizers have been demoted since the development of all these wonderful cellular changing Cosmeceutical serums. However, they still have their place. For example, if you continually fold a dry piece of leather over and over again, eventually it will start to look lined and cracks will appear. If you were to do the same, with a nicely lubricated piece of leather, the same amount of times, you would find it would look a lot less damaged and lined. This is also true for our skin and moisturisers! As well as this they create a protective barrier to protect the skin from harsh elements and prevent trans-epidermal water loss.
