The fast way to lose your belly fat

February 23, 2018

Excess ‘belly fat’ or fat around the abdomen is a common problem for many men and women. While it’s primarily caused by a combination of a poor diet, low levels of physical activity, stress, age and genetics, a range of other factors can also play a significant role in the development of excess weight around the abdomen.

The first step to reducing belly fat should always start with making changes to your diet and following a good exercise regime, however some pockets of fat simply may not respond to diet and exercise, leaving you searching for alternative ways to eliminate the bulge.

If you’re looking for an effective way to get rid of stubborn excess belly fat, there are a range of treatment options available that can help you get back in shape fast. Here are a few options to consider…

If you’re wanting to achieve more immediate results or need to remove a moderate to large amount of excess fat, Liposuction may be a more suitable treatment option.

Performed under local anaesthetic, during liposuction treatment a small suction tube is inserted into the problem area through a small incision in an inconspicuous location on the skin, and the fat cells are extracted from the body. Because our bodies stop producing new fat cells after puberty, the results of liposuction are essentially permanent.

While Liposuction is a safe procedure that is performed on thousands of men and women each year, patients will usually experience some side-effects following treatment.

Most patients usually report some bruising, swelling and discomfort similar to that following a strenuous work out which usually subsides in a few days. Any swelling and tenderness should subside completely within a week or two. Generally, patients can return to non-strenuous work within two to three days, but should wait at least ten days before attempting more intense activities.

While the cost of Liposuction will vary according to your individual requirements, at ME Clinic Liposuction treatments performed on one area on the abdomen start from $6,200.

Tummy Tuck

A Tummy Tuck (also known as an Abdominoplasty) is another treatment option if you need to remove unwanted fat and excess loose skin from the abdomen.

There are several Tummy Tuck procedures available including:

  • Mini Tummy Tuck: Excess skin is removed below the belly button to tighten the skin, and where appropriate the underlying muscle is tightened.
  • Endoscopic Abdominoplasty: Both skin and muscles are tightened. Small incisions are made in the pubic area, resulting in minimal scarring and a quick recovery time. This is suitable for patients with mild muscle bulging or muscle separation, where there is little loose skin and fat. Special instruments are used with “keyhole” technique that leave minimal scarring.
  • Full Abdominoplasty: Loose skin between the belly button and the pubic area is removed and the underlying muscles are tightened. This leaves a scar that runs across the bikini line. This is often the best procedure after significant weight loss and when combined with liposuction can give the best results.

The recovery time following a Tummy Tuck procedure will vary according to the type of procedure; however it is a major surgery so you will need to allow for some downtime following the procedure. The expected recovery time will be fully explained to you by your surgeon during your consultation.

At ME Clinic, Tummy Tuck procedures start from $8,500 and can also be combined with liposuction to achieve optimum results.

Occasionally, abdominal bulging results from accumulation of internal fat around the organs and this type of condition needs diet, exercise and special medications.
