Cosmetic Ear Surgery.

March 29, 2018

Otoplasty also referred too as Ear correction surgery, is usually done to move protruding or prominent ears closer to the head or to reduce the size of larger ears.

What is involved with an Otoplasty Surgery

Otoplasty surgery takes around one to two hours depending on what is involved. This is generally performed under local anaesthetic and light sedation.
Firstly an incision is made into the fold of the skin behind the ear to expose the underlying excess cartilage. This excess cartilage is then removed or reshaped by folding and suturing it into place. Then the incision site is closed with sutures.

After your procedure

You may experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Mild pain/discomfort
  • Swelling and bruising
  • Numbness

We ask you to follow the post surgery instructions after your surgery to ensure you obtain the best results. You will have to wear a headband or bandage for one to two weeks as directed by your surgeon. Avoid any trauma to the ears – such as contact sports until the surgeon gives you the all clear.

In most cases, a faint scar may be present on the back of the ear, it will fade. The results are permanent, however ear cartilage is very elastic, so there is some forward movement of the ears after the operation.

Book an appointment to discuss your individual requirements at your initial consultation.
