What is a pre operative appointment and why is it so important?

You have booked your date for surgery.

Now you are coming in for a pre operative appointment with one of our nursing staff.  Why is this appointment so important.

Your pre op is the final stage in getting you ready for the big day.

At your pre op appointment we discuss information relevant to your surgery and paperwork in filled on. Your pre op appointment will take around one hour.

On arrival you will be welcomed by our patient consultants and then meet with one of our nurses who will confirm surgery, dates and procedure being performed.

We will explain the purpose of the pre op appointment and ask you to fill in appropriate paperwork. These forms will include, hospital admission forms, health check and women, a pregnancy form.

We will measure you for any compression garments and confirm implants with you at this stage.

We will ask general questions in relation to your health and take your blood pressure.

We will provide you with referrals for any blood tests, Ultrasounds, Xray,  ECG or stress echos required.

We will go through the consent forms and surgical forms in great detail, explain the use of compression garments and medications.  You will have the opportunity to ask any additional questions.

Post surgical care is discussed and your post surgical appointments are made.
