Fat Transfer Procedures to Body & Legs: Surgery Process

At Me Clinic, fat transfer is a surgical procedure performed by our specialist cosmetic surgeon, who holds a specialist registration in cosmetic surgery. This procedure involves removing a patient’s fat tissue by liposuction and grafting it in the areas of the body that requires augmentation. Fat is naturally occurring and the addition of the patient’s own fat (autologous fat transfer) complements the existing fat in the body. The fat grafting procedure’s transferred fat provides a natural feeling and looking volume or body contour shape change.

The rate of absorption (if any) of the fat grafting procedure cannot be gauged for each patient prior to the cosmetic surgery. It’s important to note that individual responses and results vary, and while some patients may see long-lasting results, this is not guaranteed for every individual.

Patients have the option to discuss other procedures such as anti-ageing treatments (like dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections) during their consultation, but it’s important to consider each procedure individually.

Cosmetic surgery is one of many options for addressing concerns such as:

  • Sunken chests
  • Unshapely legs and calves
  • Post-surgery defects
  • Post trauma or post injury reshaping
  • Atrophic ageing of the hands
  • And enhancements and reshaping of female and male genitalia

What should I expect after Fat Transfer to Body & Legs Surgery?

Fat transfer is a cosmetic surgery procedure which involves anaesthesia. The effects of anaesthesia can vary between individuals. Some people may feel drowsy after the procedure, so it is often recommended to have someone available to drive you home. You are provided with an after-hours direct number in the event you may have any questions or concerns you wish to speak to us about.

The next day or within a few days, you will need to come back to the clinic for your first post-operative check. Some patients may experience a small amount of swelling, which will gradually settle. The visibility of results can vary between individuals and may not be immediate.

Our surgeons and nurses will continue to monitor your recovery through a number of post-operative check-ups. If you have any questions or concerns during our operating hours, please call the clinic to speak with your surgeon, nurses or one of our staff members.

Me Clinic also perform a range of breast surgery procedures which includes breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift and several others. Fat transfer treatments are a cosmetic procedure which can help minimise the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. During this treatment, excess fat is aspirated from an area like your buttocks, abdomen or hips. These excess fat cells are then processed before being injected into the facial area to add volume and definition. A centrifuge is used to spin the fat to remove impurities. Because the procedure uses your own fat cells rather than synthetic filler, fat injections are an option for those who prefer a treatment using natural body substances. As with any procedure, there may be risks and benefits which can be discussed during a consultation. Body fat goals and amount of fat transfer varies from person to person. To learn more about fat injections and to discuss if this could be an option for you, please schedule a consultation with our team.

While the results of fat transfer treatments can be noticed immediately, some of the injected fat may be absorbed by your body in the first few months following the procedure. For example, results from fat injections into the face can last for years making it a good longer-term treatment option.

The results of a fat transfer procedure can vary. In some cases, the body may absorb some of the grafted fat, which could reduce the volume of the targeted part of the body. It’s not possible to determine the rate of absorption of the fat or otherwise for each patient prior to the procedure. The good news is we always remove extra fat so we can inject more fat into the targeted area if required.

The longevity of the results from a fat transfer and fat graft procedure can vary significantly between individuals. In some cases, the results may be long-lasting, but this depends on how the individual’s body responds to the procedure.

Fat transfer is a procedure that involves taking fat from one part of the body and injecting it into another part of the body. It’s important to note that individual responses and results can vary greatly, and the outcomes experienced by one person do not necessarily reflect the outcomes that other people may experience. To remove impurities, a centrifuge is used as part of the process to spin the fat before between harvesting and placement of the transferred fat. Liposuction in itself is a surgical procedure which involves anaesthesia, small incisions and a cannula to remove stubborn fat. The duration of the procedure can vary greatly depending on a number of factors, including the number of fat graft donor site areas and their size and location.
