UGS treatment is a very efficient way to treat medium size varicose veins that are hidden beneath the skin.
The advantage of this treatment is its quick recovery time and its suitability to treat advanced varicose veins in both summer and winter.
Best alternative to surgical veins, Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy uses foam sclerotherapy that is generally the preferred treatment option as less solution is required to achieve a superior result. The foam is visible under ultrasound allowing enhanced monitoring and typically leads to less discomfort and more rapid healing following treatment.
This treatment involves the insertion of a Fibre-optic probe into the offending vein. The ultrasound machine helps to visualise the hidden vein and inject a sclerosant foam solution along its length causing the varicose vein to collapse. The advantage of using foam rather than liquid as a sclerosant is that foam better adheres to the wall of the vessel allowing a better visualisation of the treated area while providing a more accurate placement of the sclerosant.
The main advantage is its effectiveness in treating medium varicose veins with a short recovery period and the patient is up and walking immediately compared to the Surgical stripping of veins. Known as the best alternative to vein surgery, this effective technique provides immediate results in both summer and winter.

If you decide to undergo varicose vein treatment at Me Clinic, here is an overview of what you can expect:
When you contact us, we will arrange a one-on-one consultation with an experienced Me Clinic physician who will:
If you decide to proceed with treatment, we will schedule a time for you to undergo the procedure.
The procedure will be performed. Your physician will advise on what to expect following the procedure. Depending on the chosen procedure, most patients are able to return home immediately following treatment.
As a result of working many years as a beauty therapist, this patient suffered from severe and painful Varicose Veins.
Sclerotherapy treatments were performed to dissolve the Varicose Veins which made a dramatic difference to the patients legs.
You may need to attend a post-procedure check-up. We will also be available for you to contact us if you need to discuss any concerns or have any questions.
You are provided with an after hours direct number in the event you may have any questions or concerns you wish to speak to us about.
Some bruising can be expected. Some patients bruise more easily than others. Apply Arnica ointment (supplied by us or any health food store) to assist with the bruising if any. Some veins could turn dark soon after treatment and temporarily look worse before they look better.
You may experience tenderness and redness along sections of the injected veins after the treatment. This is not an infection. Walking rather than sitting down will reduce the soreness.
Sometimes an oral anti-inflammatory agent is required for quicker relief. Please contact the Clinic if further advice is needed. Some lumps may form along sections of the injected veins. Please don't be concerned as this is quite normal. The Doctor may treat them when you return for your next visit or subsequent visits.
Blisters can sometimes appear over the skin. A dry dressing with a Melolin pad held on with Micropore tapes and changed daily is usually all that is required. Generalised rash or itching particularly of the palms of the hands or soles of the feet most often means an allergic reaction. If this occurs please contact the Clinic.
We recommend that you should walk up to 30 minutes daily whilst attending the Clinic for treatment is recommended and you should also continue with your normal activities. We advise that vigorous exercise (e.g. aerobics, running) should be avoided for at least for a week and also when wearing compression-wrap bandages. Don't plan any long car or plane trip, a week after treatment.
Following treatment your legs may need to be taped or bandaged and thereafter you should wear your stockings where advised by the doctor, whenever standing. The stockings may be removed when lying in bed or temporarily when showering, i.e. on during the day, off, at night. They may need to be worn for a number of weeks after treatment. The doctor will advise you.
If you are undergoing vein treatment you may be be able to claim a Medicare rebate for your treatment. Your physician will discuss any Medicare rebates with you at your initial consultation. You can also contact Medicare for further details about any applicable rebates.
