How does a Co2 Laser treatment work?

A little sunshine goes a long way in providing us with much-needed Vitamin D and a boost of happiness. Co2 Laser treatments can be an option when dealing with skin issues such as premature ageing and pigmentation.

These sophisticated anti-ageing treatments use laser technology that works on the same principle as the Fraxel Laser and the Erbium Lasers but it is more than just skin deep. Co2 Laser treatments can penetrate deeper for smoother skin results. The results of these laser treatments may vary and can be different from anti-wrinkle injections.

Performed under topical and regional anaesthetic, the Co2 Laser emits a laser beam that produces more residual thermal activity than the Erbium Laser. These lasers create microscopic areas of thermal damage that stimulate new collagen production and replace damaged skin surfaces with the generation of epidermal cells.

As the skin cells heal, it produces additional collagen. With increased collagen production, there is a definitive change to reduce fine lines, deep lines, wrinkles and scarring. Once the skin heals, results may vary, but some patients have experienced softer, smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. There is often some skin contraction which is a benefit leading to tighten skin.

At Me Clinic, we perform the following Co2 Laser Procedures:

Co2 Laser (Deep FX)

Developed in 1964, the carbon dioxide laser or Co2 Laser (Deep FX) is a cosmetic procedure that has been used for the treatment of deep lines, fine lines, wrinkles and skin ageing. Carbon dioxide lasers also known as ablative lasers accurately remove thin layers of skin with minimal risk of damage to the surrounding structures. Our experienced surgeons are trained in the use of these anti ageing technologies, and results may vary.

Co2 Laser (Ultra Pulse) | Co2 Laser (Active FX)

The Co2 Laser (Ultra Pulse) and Co2 Laser (Active FX) also provide our surgeons, and clinicians with the option of a superficial rejuvenation of the skin. The wavelength settings can be increased on these Co2 Lasers for a Deep treatment when it is required on your skin’s surface.

While the deep settings on our Co2 Laser procedure make them more effective, they do require a longer recovery time and downtime for optimal results. On the other hand, superficial settings hasten the procedure and require only minimal downtime. See also Laser Skin Rejuvenation.

Laser skin resurfacing explained

Fractional laser skin resurfacing is a procedure used in skin rejuvenation that may help with signs of ageing. It works by diffusing the laser energy into thousands of tiny beams to treat a fraction of the skin in the area. This means less downtime post-treatment. Resurfacing treatments are used to treat full-face sunburn, pigmentation, open pores, age spots and age-related blemishes. Fractional laser treatments themselves can be ablative or non-ablative.

Benefits

Co2 Laser treatment is used in the fight against ageing and may provide benefits that vary from person to person. This gold standard procedure stimulates collagen production so as your skin heals, new collagen is produced. You will enjoy better skin tone and skin conditions. Post-treatment will also see marked improvements in skin texture for a more youthful appearance and natural-looking results.

Risks of Laser Cosmetic Surgery

  • Redness and swelling. The treated area may experience swelling. If this is the case, contact our physician.
  • Burning sensation. It is not uncommon for your skin to feel hot after the procedure. Apply a cold compress over the treated skin to alleviate the heat.
  • Infection. This may occur due to medication reacting with the treatment. On the rare occasion of an infection, get immediate help.

It is vital to get an understanding of the effects that laser skin resurfacing will have.

The difference between Fractional laser and Fraxel laser treatments

For skin rejuvenation with a difference, you can’t go wrong with laser technology. At Me Clinic, you can choose between Fraxel laser treatments or Fractional laser treatments to improve your skin conditions. While they both employ the use of laser technology, Fractional Co2 laser treatment removes the entire top layer of skin tissue or dermis. This is different to Fraxel which targets specific areas on your face and penetrates into deeper layers of the skin.

Both laser treatments are effective in the removal of age spots, acne scarring, fine lines and scabs.

How much does it cost?

At Me Clinic, we offer cosmetic treatments with the aim of helping men and women address their skin conditions. Addressing skin conditions is our specialty and as individual patients have different skin types and requirements, it is pertinent to have a treatment plan specific to your aesthetic goals and pricing needs.
