A ‘Thread Lift’ is a non-surgical alternative to a facelift that provides a subtle yet visible lift to facial skin.
This procedure lifts the skin and also promotes your body’s natural healing response by directing collagen production to the treated areas. Read on to find out more about thread lift before and after.

What is a thread lift?
The thread lift procedure utilises temporary sutures to lift the skin. Instead of surgical skin removal, the cosmetic surgeon suspends your facial skin by stitching up areas that are loose, sagging, or wrinkled. The skin is pulled back slightly resulting in a lift that tightens the face. This facial rejuvenation procedure also encourages a surge in collagen production that produces healthy skin volume and delays the natural aging process.
Thread lifts, utilise medical-grade thread material to sculpt your face or breasts. This process provides ongoing and progressive rejuvenation for the facial tissues. Patients who have a thread lift notice a gradual improvement in skin tone and firmness.
The thread lift procedure
The Me Clinic thread lift procedure works in two ways.
1: By threading dissolvable sutures underneath your skin, your clinician is able to pull your skin tight around the treatment area. Invisible barbs or cones on the threads attach to your skin and grip underlying tissue and muscles as the thread is tightened.
2: Once the thread is inserted, a healing response is triggered. Your body detects the suture material and stimulates collagen production in the affected area. Collagen can fill gaps in sagging skin and restore elasticity.
What to expect from a Thread Lift
The procedure for a thread lift will depend on the area you’re targeting and the number of threads used. This cosmetic treatment is a minimally invasive procedure performed using local anaesthetic. Thread lift is a non-surgical treatment that can reverse the visible signs of ageing. Here is how it’s done in a few simple steps.
- The treatment can be performed at Me Clinic. Once you are comfortable and reclined a topical anaesthetic will be applied to your skin in readiness for the cosmetic procedure.
- A thin needle or cannula is used to insert the threads underneath your skin. This will take 30 to 45 minutes.
- After the threads are inserted, you may feel some light pressure or tightness under your skin.
- The needles and cannulas are removed before the procedure is complete. You will be free to go home or back to work.
What is the thread lift recovery time?
Recovery after a thread lift is quite minimal with little downtime. While there may be some visible swelling and bruising, you can continue with regular activities or go back to work right away. Results should be apparent as soon as the threads are in place. You will notice more improvement as swelling and bruising starts to subside.
It is worth noting that results from a thread lift aren’t permanent, although facial soft tissue improvements should last from 2 to 3 years. The threads used will eventually be absorbed by the tissue underneath your skin.
After a thread lift, you can continue with your normal routine. Unwanted side effects are rare. You should avoid rubbing your face vigorously and avoid sleeping on your side for a few weeks following the procedure. You may be advised to avoid using moisturizer and skin creams for the first few weeks after a thread lift. You should also avoid saunas and high-intensity workouts for the first week or two after the thread lift.
How to get rid of loose skin
There are quite a few useful cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery procedures that can be applied to remove excess skin or tighten loose skin on the face and other areas of the body. These include dermal fillers, brow lifts, Botox, neck lifts, face lifts, and anti-wrinkle injections. The options can be discussed during your initial consultation with a Me Clinic surgeon, dermatologist or clinician. A thread lift can improve:
- jowls and jawline
- under-eye area
- cheeks
- skin laxity
- Loose neck skin
- sagging skin around the mouth (nasalobial folds, marionette folds)
The difference between a surgical facelift and a thread lift
Thread lifts and facelifts produce different results. A thread lift is more natural looking and a less invasive more cost-effective procedure for people looking for cosmetic enhancements. A surgical facelift, on the other hand, is a more permanent surgical procedure that can target all areas of the face.
