Our booklet can help explain to you how fat deposits grow and expand in our bodies and how liposuction can improve these areas.
Even after dieting and exercise, you may not achieve the body shape you desire as a result of weight gain or genetics. It's a fact that men and women have different problem areas. With women these areas are usually thighs, hips and buttocks. In men it is generally the chest (man boobs), love handles and abdomen.
We understand that patients may be genetically predisposed to have stubborn areas of fatty deposits that will not go away despite dieting and exercise. This treatment can assist women and men by safely removing these problem areas and improve the shape and proportion of their bodies.
In some situations, in order to treat these problem areas many people lose weight to such an extent that it has an adverse effect in areas they do not want to lose weight in, e.g. face (which can cause skin sagging), breasts (which can cause volume loss and sagging) or even buttocks. This is not desirable.
This procedure can help you find the right balance between weight loss and health, and also shape and proportion.
The procedure can be performed on the Abdomen, Waist, back, Breast, Hips, Legs, Inner thighs, Outer thighs, Calves, Ankles, Upper arms, Face, Mons pubis and Man boobs (male chest). We are able treat a number of areas in one procedure.
The procedure is intended to contour and reshape the body by decreasing stubborn fatty deposits that may make your body to look out of proportion. Liposuction helps to shape and contour the problem areas. One of the positive aspects of the procedure is the treatment provides immediate results.
The additional benefit of treating these problem areas is that it can help motivate you to make a positive change in your life and to maintain a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. This procedure however, is not intended to be a substitute for healthy living.
A suction tube (know as a cannula) is inserted through a tiny incision (approx. 3 - 4 mm), these incisions are strategically placed to be as inconspicuous as possible. Then under vacuum, fat cells are extracted through this tube. The result is the removal of excess fat cell deposits and a re-sculpting and reshaping of the problem bulging areas into more attractive and proportionate contours.
As one of the first clinics' to perform the procedure in Australia in the early 1980's we understand what is required to get a great result. We have performed over 10,000 procedures and our Cosmetic Surgeons have trained many Australian and international surgeons in our clinic.
As you consider which Cosmetic Surgeon to choose to perform your procedure, it is important to understand that the skill and experience of your surgeon is more important than what technique is performed. We have many patients with proven results in our before and after images gallery.
With the Me Clinic's international surgeries we are able to bring the most effective, safest and leading edge techniques and knowledge from all over the world. As a result of our global position we are one of the leading internationally recognised clinics in Victoria, Australia.
There are a number of different types of procedures, all of which we list further down the page. Generally, we use the Tumescent Liposuction technique, which is a procedure performed in a short period of time that offers a speedy recovery with minimal discomfort and bruising.
Our Cosmetic Surgeons will recommend the right treatment for you based on the goals you wish to achieve, your physique and the areas you wish to be treated.
There is no need to obtain a referral from your doctor to see one of our Surgeons. Generally we are able to book you in to see one of our Surgeons in 7 to 14 days.
Generally Medicare Rebates or bulk billing is not available for Liposuction. However, if Liposuction is required and performed because of trauma or medical conditions, such as Breast Reduction, a Medicare rebate may be available.
Private healthcare cover for this procedure can vary from policy to policy and you should check with your specific fund for level of cover.
As every patient we see has different requirements, it is difficult to provide standardised pricing as each procedure is tailored for each individual patient's situation.
As a guide, prices start from:
Chin and Neck $3,100
Abdomen (one area) $6,200
Inner and outer thighs (two areas) $7,500
In some cases a combination of areas may be required to obtain the results that patients are looking for.
During your consultation your Surgeon will discuss with you the best options and combination of areas for you, and then provide you with a quote so you know exactly what is involved with your procedure and what it will cost. Special packages for multiple areas are available. Consultation fees may apply.
Finance is available through a number of financial institutions. Our recommendation would be to wait until you are in a better financial position before deciding to proceed with surgery.
However, some patients have commitments, events in their lives and they do not feel they are in a position to wait. In those circumstances we offer the Me Clinic payment plan and we would also suggest they contact their own financial institutions or they can try a credit provider such as Mac Credit.
Recovery for any surgical procedure can and does vary according to the individual, their health stays and general level of fitness; however there are some general rules about recovery that should be applied to the surgery.
Generally you are able to return to non-strenuous work within two to three days after your procedure, but in some cases we may specify up to seven days. However, we recommend that you should wait at least 10 to 14 days days before attempting more intense activities such as gym work, competitive sporting activities or heavy physical work.
The number of visits you will have with the Me Clinic team will depend on a number of factors, most importantly the type of procedure and the number of areas you have had treated. Generally, the next day or within a few days you are booked in to the Me Clinic for your first post-operative check. Our trained Nurses and/or Surgeons examine the areas treated and change any dressings or attend to other issues as required.
You are then scheduled for further post operative checks during your recovery period the following week and then in two weeks after that. There is no limit to the number of post operative checks you can have.
The most common side effects are discomfort, bruising and swelling. Liposuction is a safe procedure performed on thousands of men and women each year. During a personal consultation, your surgeon we will detail these side effects further of you. It is important to note that as with any surgical procedure, there are some risks. Sometimes despite a healthy diet and exercise women can still have problem areas from their abdomen waist, hips, buttocks and thighs and other areas. Liposuction is a procedure whereby fat cells are removed from these problem areas to decrease the volume and size and to reshape the body.

Some patients carry excess fat in their chins and neck; the double chin effect. As a result they lack definition between their necks and chin.
For both men and women these problems develop with age, weight gain or are simply genetic.
In some case a normal Liposuction procedure may not be sufficient to remove the desired amount of fat from patients or achieve the anticipated result.
With these cases a Mega Liposuction procedure may be more suitable to achieve the results the patients are seeking. Click more to find out how our expert Liposuction team in our Melbourne or Sydney clinic can help give you a better shape.
Many patients elect to have Fat Transfers to part of their body and legs to enhance their shape, replace lost volume or correct trauma and injuries.
The addition of the patients own fat complements the existing fat in the body and when transferred and grafted it provides a natural feeling and looking volume or shape change.
Over the years with getting older, weight fluctuations with putting on significant weight and then extreme weight loss can lead to excess skin in the arms.
The excess skin in the upper arms can be corrected with Upper Arm Lift Surgery or Brachioplasty surgery. Click more to find out how our surgeons in Melbourne can help you.
