Double Chin Reduction Procedure
Sometimes no matter how much you exercise you cannot reduce the fullness under the chin, generally referred to as a double chin. A double chin may be a concern for both men and women. This stubborn fat deposit can be caused by a number of changes to the body such as ageing and weight gain or it may be as a result of genetics.
A double chin can affect your appearance. We offer a non-surgical treatment for double chin that is designed to be convenient and does not require a surgical procedure. Please note that individual responses and results may vary.
Double Chin Treatment Process
The double chin reduction procedure at Me Clinic, performed by our team of registered medical practitioners with specialist registration in cosmetic surgery, is a non-surgical injectable treatment using fat dissolving injections. Fat dissolving injections use a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid which occurs naturally in our bodies. Unwanted fat cell membranes are destroyed when injected with this treatment allowing the fat within the cell to be released and then naturally eliminated by the body. When injected below the chin, this fat reduction procedure results in a more contoured neck profile and jawline, with a skin tightening effect. In this procedure, the fat dissolving injections target the excess fat under the chin area, called submental fat (which is different to neck fat).
This procedure differs to liposuction for double chin treatment because it’s a non-surgical procedure using fat dissolving injections. At our Melbourne Liposuction Clinic, we specialize in removing fat using small incisions and a cannula. This double chin fat treatment process at our clinic is also different to cryolipolysis which uses cold temperatures to damage fat cells.
A double chin can occur due to various factors, including ageing or genetics, and is a normal variation in body structure. Our treatments are available for those who wish to alter this aspect of their appearance. Other non-surgical anti-ageing procedures at Me Clinic, performed by our team of registered medical practitioners with specialist registration in cosmetic surgery, include anti-wrinkle injections and dermal filler injections.
Pre-Procedure Steps – What You Need to Know
The starting point for any cosmetic procedure at Me Clinic is an initial consultation with one of our clinic’s practitioners, who are registered medical practitioners with specialist registration in cosmetic surgery, to examine the treatment area and discuss your specific situation and needs. In general, a good candidate for a double chin removal cosmetic procedure is a candidate who is close to their goal weight and looking to target stubborn double chin unwanted fat that persists despite a healthy lifestyle. If you’re suitable for a double chin treatment, your Me Clinic doctor will share next steps, how to prepare, what the procedure involves and the recovery process. We provide a realistic representation of potential outcomes through responsibly presented ‘before and after‘ images. Please note that individual results may vary.

Number of Treatments Needed
The number of treatments required varies among individuals. While some patients may see improvements in their chin profile after two to four treatments, others may not see any significant changes. It’s important to discuss this with your practitioner. While each individual is different, we have found that generally most patients only require up to two sessions, however up to six treatments may be administered spaced six weeks apart.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call Me Clinic to speak with one of our registered medical practitioners with specialist registration in cosmetic surgery, or our registered nursing staff.
Recovery Time
Treatment sessions are usually six weeks apart with minimum downtime. While there is typically no need for bandaging, you may experience discomfort in the treatment area, similar to the feeling of a sunburn. It’s important to discuss potential side effects and recovery with your practitioner. Other side effects may include subsequent swelling which could last a few days. We therefore recommend if you intend on dealing with the public, or you wish to make sure no one knows you have received treatment, to delay these interactions for several days just to be sure.
You can expect that these common side effects will be the highest after the first session with all future side effects reduced for any subsequent treatments.
While this non-surgical approach targets under chin fullness due to fat deposits, it’s important to remember that individual results may vary and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial for long-term results.
