Reasons why women get breast augmentations
Women decide to have breast augmentation surgery for a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons may be for a simple size increase, breast asymmetry or restoring shape and volume lost through ageing or breastfeeding. For some, they have just always felt that their body was out of proportion and want to feel more balanced.
Whatever your reason for undergoing breast augmentation surgery, it is important that you are informed. If you have any doubts then ask questions. Be confident in your decision.
The Implants
In the beginning, the first implants were made of silicone and filled with a viscous silicone material. There were many hazards associated with these implants due to the risk of ruptures and leaks. However, technology has come a long way since then and there is now a range of safe implants to suit all types of women.
There are many types of implants available. Your surgeon will go through a range of sizes and shaped implants. Then the most appropriate implant will be selected to suit your desired outcome.
The Surgery
Breast Augmentation is one of our most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures. The actual surgery is fairly straightforward. It is generally a day procedure and you are able to go home that day.
The implants are most commonly inserted under the fold of the breast, and depending on your desired outcome, they can be placed under the muscle or on top of the muscle.
Post-surgical recovery
Immediately following the surgery, you will feel quite drowsy and groggy due to the effects of the anesthetic. It is important that you have someone drive you home from the surgery and it is recommended that you have someone spend the night with you.
For the first few days, your new breasts will feel tight and there will be some discomfort, but this tends to fade after 3-7 days. At first you will feel swollen and some stiffness, followed by some bruising. They will gradually soften and take on their final shape after a few weeks.
