If you’ve over-indulged with too much champagne, glazed ham or Christmas pudding over the festive season and have noticed a few extra kilos creep on, you’re not alone.
In fact, according to Nutrition Australia, Australian’s on average gain between 0.8-1.5 kilograms over the Christmas period—weight which is usually added around the trunk/waist area and is rarely lost after the festivities finish. But don’t despair if you’re in need of an effective way to get back into shape quickly, because ME Clinic can help.
Since first rising to popularity in the 1980s, Liposuction is a tried-and-tested cosmetic procedure which can be used to shed those extra kilos with immediate and permanent results.
Performed under local or general anaesthetic, liposuction works by inserting a small specially-designed steel cannula, which is attached to a suction device, into small incisions in inconspicuous locations. Fat cells are then delicately extracted from the area, while ensuring other tissues are not damaged during the process.
A suitable treatment to target excess weight in the abdomen, waist, back, hips, legs, inner and other thighs, calves, ankles, upper arms, face, mons pubis or male chest, liposuction provides an effective way to target specific problem areas and help you achieve a more pleasing and proportionate shape.
Liposuction entirely removes fat cells from the body, meaning you’ll be able to notice the results immediately after any swelling subsides (usually within 1-2 weeks). Because our bodies stop producing new fat cells after puberty, the results are also essentially permanent, meaning you’ll be able to enjoy the results in the long-term provided you maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime.
While liposuction is generally a suitable treatment option if you want to shed a few extra kilos, it is not a suitable treatment for obesity.
Alternative treatment options
If you’re not a suitable candidate for liposuction, a Tummy Tuck or Abdonimoplasty could be another option which can help achieve a similar result.
While generally only recommended after dieting and exercise have failed to achieve results, a Tummy Tuck can be effective in removing fat and excess loose skin from the abdomen, as well as restoring weakened or separated abdominal muscles to improve the shape and tone of the abdomen and achieve a firmer and smoother profile.
There are a range of Tummy Tuck treatments available, including:
– Mini Tummy Tuck: During a Mini Tummy Tuck, excess skin below the belly button is removed to tighten the skin on the abdomen, leaving only minimal scarring with a relatively short recovery period. While it provides an effective way to tighten the skin on the abdomen, the underlying muscle tissue won’t be tightened during the procedure.
– Endoscopic Abdominoplasty: An Endoscopic Abdominoplasty allows both the skin and the underlying muscles to be tightened using only small incisions at the pubic area, which results in minimal scarring and a relatively short recovery period.
– Full Abdominoplasty: A Full Abdominoplasty involves the removal of the loose skin underneath the belly button while also tightening the underlying muscles, however it will leave a scar that runs across the bikini line (which is not generally visible when wearing underwear or bikinis).
If suitable, a Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty procedure can also be combined with Liposuction to achieve the optimum overall result.
