Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Our own blood is made of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and Platelets. Platelets are tiny bodies which contain granules. These granules contain clotting factors and other elements and researchers have discovered that when activated in the body, they release healing proteins.

How does Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment work?

The Platelets are activated by injury resulting in the release of the clotting and growth factors. The clotting factors stop the bleeding and growth factors promote the healing process.

At the Me Clinic Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is produced from the patient's own blood by a process of centrifugation of the blood. The platelets are isolated and then mixed with a small quantity of plasma which are then injected into the patient. These platelets are packed with growth factor proteins, which assist with and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration and slow down the ageing process of the skin and face. They promote the healing of connective tissue and the development of new blood vessels and also stimulate the wound healing process, and increase collagen production.

Because your own blood is used the treatment is low risk and there is no danger of disease or allergies/anaphylaxis.  Nothing artificial is used in PRP, it is the most natural way of rejuvenating.

As such PRP treatments provide amazing opportunities in Cosmetic Medicine. We have been involved in Research & Development and performing PRP treatments for over 10 years.

Plasma Rich Platelet (PRP) can be used with the following treatments:

Who is a suitable candidate for PRP?

Those who want a natural and gradual but noticeable improvement.

Sun damaged and prematurely aged skin, dark circles under eyes, hollowness under eyes, sagging skin on neck/jawline, crepey/weathered hands, cheek enhancement, full face rejuvenation, décolletage, fine lines and wrinkles.

What facial and body areas can be treated?

  • Under eye dark circles and wrinkles
  • Cheeks and Mid face
  • Wrinkles on the neck
  • Back of hands
  • Décolletage
  • Other Body Areas

Do I need a skin test?

No, Regenerative Medicine is non allergenic as it is using your own blood.

How does PRP work?

After numbing cream is applied to the areas on your skin to be treated, our practice nurse will draw a small amount of blood (similar to a standard blood test).  Your blood will then be entered into a special machine called a centrifuge and in approximately 5 minutes it will separate your blood and extract the PRP.

This PRP is then injected into the skin to the selected area(s). The healing ‘growth factors’ in the plasma will help repair and produces new healthy tissue, accelerating the normal healing process.

How long is the process from start to finish?

Approximately 45 minutes.

Does the treatment hurt?

PRP is usually administered via multiple injections. Numbing cream is applied to the skin for 30 minutes and there is usually minimal discomfort.

Are the results immediate?

No. There is usually some mild swelling and wound healing are obvious at first sight.

However, collagen rejuvenation can take from 6 weeks depending on the condition of your skin and lifestyle.

How long is the downtime?

You may have some mild swelling in the first 24-48 hours. Most of the time, it is barely noticeable after 24 hours, and you can apply makeup immediately after the treatment.

Sometimes bruising is possible but infrequent.

When can I return to work?

Most patients can return to work immediately. Most of the swelling will resolve after 24-48 hours.

How many treatments will I need?

The amount of treatments will depend on the patient. At your first appointment our doctor will have a detailed discussion regarding your concerns.

Ideally, at least three treatments spaced one month apart.

When will I see results?

In about four weeks you should start noticing your skin feels firmer, healthier and smoother. Remember that the collagen starts to build up from 3 months post procedure and grows for another 6 months. So the best result is usually 6-9 months down the track.

How long does the result last?

As we are regenerating collagen lasting results, it will depend on the care and maintenance of your skin. However, two to three treatments will help results last up to 18-24months.

What can I expect after PRP?

It is important that you keep your skin in optimal condition by keeping yourself  well hydrated. Some cosmaceutical grade products such as Vitamin C serum can also support your PRP therapy.

The procedure is usually not uncomfortable as a local anaesthetic cream will be applied prior to your treatment.

A slight sensation of sunburn, bruising and minimal swelling with little or no discomfort.

How Much Does it Cost?

As every patient we see has different requirements, it is difficult to provide standardised pricing as each procedure is tailored for each individual patient's situation. A no obligation consultation with one of Surgeons is essential in determining what you require and which procedure would be best suited for you.

Our philosophy is simple. We want you to be fully informed, and we want you to understand all your options and have one accurate price quoted once. Consultation fees may apply.

There is no need for you to obtain a referral from your own doctor to see one of our surgeons. Generally we are able to book you in to see one of our doctors with in 7 to 14 days.
