How do Anti-Wrinkle injections work?

Anti-wrinkle injections may help to reduce the appearance of some signs of aging. This age-defying technique has soared in popularity since its inception. Also known as neuromodulators, this non-invasive cosmetic treatment works by temporarily reducing movement in the muscles. Using an injection, Clostridium botulinum is injected into the wrinkle and affected areas where facial expressions have made their mark. They act to relax the muscles, making them unable to move to the degree they normally do. Results may vary, but some patients have reported a more youthful appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections do not slow down the aging process but may help to reduce the appearance of some signs of aging.

What happens during an anti-wrinkle treatment

Anti-wrinkle treatment involves the use of cosmetic injectables which may help to reduce the appearance of static wrinkles. The anti-wrinkle injections themselves comprise inhibitors that block the nerves that cause the facial muscles to contract. Hence, they stop the signal between the nerve and the muscle. With less muscle movement, there may be less stress on the skin, which some patients find helps to maintain a fresh and youthful appearance. Cosmetic injectable treatments may be a potential option for those looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. While anti-wrinkle injections may help to reduce the appearance of lines, dermal fillers may be used to restore volume and achieve facial symmetry.

How many Treatments are required?

This depends on your Cosmetic Practitioner and Aesthetic Nurse’s assessment, but we do recommend a treatment plan to ensure that you continuously look your best, and avoid sudden and dramatic changes to your appearance. As well as wrinkle reduction, we believe in enhancing your looks and features subtly and elegantly. We are renowned for our effective treatment plans which we have developed over 20 years.

Preparing for anti-wrinkle treatment

Anti-wrinkle treatments are non-surgical and non-invasive, however, it does help to prepare yourself for the cosmetic procedure so everything goes smoothly including recovery time. We recommend the following before your treatment:

Please advise our surgeons and nurses if you are on medication.
Do stop taking any aspirin or blood thinning medication at least a week before the treatment.
Avoid vigorous physical activity and alcohol intake at least 24 hours before the procedure to reduce the risk of bruising.

What should you expect after Anti-Wrinkle Injections Treatment?

Following your treatment, you may experience several side effects including redness, numbing, tenderness, swelling or dimpling in the treated areas. These reactions are normal, but if they persist or worsen, please contact us immediately.

Do not massage or try to rub your face for 24 hours after treatment.

The effects of Anti-Wrinkle Treatments are not immediate. From our experience, you generally see results in three (3) days but the full effect may not be achieved for up to ten (10) to fourteen (14) days.

Benefits/Risks

After undergoing the cosmetic procedure, some patients have reported benefits such as smoother skin and reduced wrinkles. Results may vary. The effects of the treatment can vary, lasting anywhere from a few months to a year and a half, depending on individual factors.

Aftercare and Recovery

Following your treatment, it’s important to follow these post-treatment dos and don’ts to aid in your recovery. If you experience any severe or lasting side effects, please contact us immediately.

We advise staying upright for at least 4 hours post-treatment.
Avoid touching the treated area to reduce the risk of infection.
Do not perform any strenuous activities or exercise.
No saunas or hot tubs.
As far as possible, avoid excessive sun exposure as your face heals.
Do not undergo any facials or peels after the treatment.

The anti-wrinkle treatment can take up to 14 days for the full effect to be seen. Me Clinic recommends attending a review to assess the treatment outcome.
