(also known as Lipo-Augmentation, Autologous Fat Transplantation or Micro-Lipoinjection)
Fat Transfers can plump up facial features with a patient’s own fat and is a popular alternative to other Dermal Fillers and Anti-Wrinkle Treatments. Fat Transfer to the face and cheeks is a natural, non-allergenic procedure (as you use your own fat) designed to recontour your face and can provide additional definition to your jowls and chin. It can also be used to correct facial deformities.
With Fat Transfer it is possible to have fat extracted by Liposuction from your thighs (or other areas) and then transferred to your face (and even other areas of your body). Reinjected fat lasts longer in larger areas of non-movement, so it is very successful for the correction of sunken cheeks because these areas do not move as often or as much as lips.
Surgical Warning: Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

How does Fat Transfer to the Face work?
Fat Transfer can be performed at our Clinic can on walk in, walk out basis. Both the area from which the fat is taken and the treatment site are anaesthetised with a local anaesthetic. Using a small needle attached to a syringe, fat is removed under vacuum by Liposuction from a donor site where your fat is most tightly packed, such as your abdomen or your hips.
Once removed, your fat is processed to remove excess fluids and then reinjected using another needle, which is placed just under your skin beneath the wrinkle or depressed area. This process may be repeated until the desired volume or correction has been achieved.
Harvesting the fat cells for reinjection is often performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as Liposuction, Tummy Tuck or Breast Enhancement with Fat Transfer.
When fat is harvested during another procedure, it is often possible for your Surgeon to harvest a larger amount of fat, then freeze and store your fat for future fat grafts and injections if and when they become necessary.

What are the benefits of Fat Transfer?
- Fat transferred to the face can last for years (results can vary between patients).
- Fat transfer can be very cost effective when combined with another procedure (e.g. Liposuction).
- There’s generally no allergic reaction.
What should you expect after Fat Transfer to the Face treatment?
Following Fat Transfer injections patients are mobile immediately. Any discomfort following the procedure can be controlled with pain relieving medication if required.
If there is any swelling to the Treatment areas, it subsides in 1 to 2 days. If there is any bruising; it can be concealed with make-up and disappears in around 5 to 14 days. Over the first few months some of the fat may be absorbed by your body. The remaining fat will usually stay in place for years. Some patients may require a number of treatments over a 6 to 12 month period.
If you have any questions or concerns please call the Clinic to speak with one of our Cosmetic Physicians, Aesthetic Nurses or staff members.
