(also known as Lipo-Augmentation, Autologous Fat Transplantation or Micro-Lipoinjection)
A popular and viable alternative to Dermal Fillers is for patients to have their own Fat (called autologous fat) transferred to their face so as to recontour the face, add volume and decrease facial lines and wrinkles. It can also provide definition to the cheeks and chin and can also be used to correct facial deformities.
45 year old woman with loss of volume from lower cheeks following molar tooth extractions on each side.
Facial volume was restored to the sunken areas using Fat transfer.
How does Fat Transfer to Face work?
The fat is withdrawn from the patient’s body with Liposuction and then it is re injected into specific areas of the face so as to restore the volume that is lost with age or trauma. This treatment is suitable for patients who just wish to just add volume to areas of their face to improve or subtly or dramatically change their appearance.
A successful Fat Transfer procedure may last many years, but in some patients some portion of the fat grafted may to be absorbed by the body. Unfortunately, the rate of absorption of the fat or otherwise cannot be determined for each patient prior to the procedure. From our experience up to 70% of the Fat transferred appears to last indefinitely. In certain patients a successful Fat Transfer procedure can last a lifetime.
What are the benefits of Fat Transfer?
- Fat transferred to the face can last for years (results can vary between patients).
- Fat transfer can be very cost effective when combined with another procedure (e.g. Liposuction).
- There’s generally no allergic reaction.
Fat Transfer procedures can be combined with cell therapy treatments to substantially increase the survival and growth rate of the fat transferred and grafted, as well as providing recovery benefits and cosmetic benefits.
What should I expect after Fat Transfer to Face Procedure?
After your procedure you may feel drowsy from the anaesthetic. It is important to have someone drive you home and stay overnight. On this evening we recommend you rest. You are provided with an after hours direct number in the event you may have any questions or concerns you wish to speak to us about.
You can expect a small amount of swelling, which will gradually settle but you should be able to see some results almost immediately, and your face may experience redness and some bruising which settles down in 3 to 7 days.
You may experience some minor discomfort after the fat transfer procedure, although this tends to resolve quickly. Most patients tolerate the discomfort without the need for pain medication.
Our Surgeons and Nurses will continue to monitor your recovery through a number of post-operative check-ups and are available at any time if you have questions or concerns. If you have any questions or concerns please call the Me Clinic to speak with one of our Surgeon, Nurses or one of our staff members.
How Much Does it Cost?
As every patient we see has different requirements, it is difficult to provide standardised pricing as each procedure is tailored for each individual patient’s situation. A Fat transfer procedure can be very cost effective when combined with another procedure such as Liposuction.
During your consultation your Surgeon discusses with you the best options for you and you are then provided with a quote so you know exactly what is involved in your procedure and what it will cost.
There is no need for you to obtain a referral from your own doctor to see one of our Surgeons. Generally we are able to book you in to see one of our Surgeons in 7 to 14 days.
